The off grid power inverter is a power conversion device that converts direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) for load devices. It also needs to be equipped with energy storage batteries to store the electricity generated by solar panels so that it can continue to supply power to the load at night or on cloudy days when there is insufficient solar, thus ensuring the supply of electricity.
So how many working modes does an off grid power inverter have? How should users use it?
There are several common working modes for off grid power inverter, such as PV priority, mains priority, battery priority, energy saving mode, and batteryless operation mode. Users can flexibly choose according to their own power demand, PV resources, and mains supply.
In PV priority mode, the inverter will give priority to the power generated by the solar panel to power the load. When the solar panel generates sufficient power, the excess power will be stored in the battery; if the solar panel generates insufficient power, the power in the battery will be used, and the solar and battery will power the load at the same time. If the user's area has sufficient sunlight and abundant solar resources, the PV priority mode can be selected, which can maximize the use of solar power generation, reduce dependence on batteries and mains, and reduce electricity costs.
In mains priority mode, when the mains is available, the inverter will give priority to the mains to power the load and charge the battery at the same time; only in abnormal circumstances such as mains power outages will it switch to PV or battery power supply. If the user's area has a stable supply of city electricity and the price is relatively cheap, the city electricity priority mode is a good choice. When the city electricity is available, the city electricity is used first, and the PV priority mode is switched only in special circumstances such as city power outages.
In the battery priority mode, the power of the battery is used to meet the load demand first. When the battery power drops to a certain level, it will switch to the mains power supply, and the solar power will charge the battery, or charge it at the same time as the mains power. When the user needs to ensure the continuous and stable power supply of the load, even when the solar power is insufficient or the city power is out of power, the battery priority mode is very suitable for this use scenario, relying on the power stored in the battery to ensure the normal operation of the load equipment.
The energy saving mode can be used in the battery priority mode. When the actual power of the load is lower than a certain proportion of the rated load (such as 5% of the rated power of the inverter), the inverter will interrupt the inverter output to save battery energy and reduce energy consumption. When the actual power of the load is higher than a certain proportion of the rated load (such as 5% of the rated power of the inverter), the inverter will continue to work and run in the inverter state without interrupting the inverter output. For example, Xindun DF/LF/WF/LS series solar inverters have energy saving modes. Users can flexibly turn on this mode according to actual usage needs, so as to achieve energy saving goals for users in different power usage scenarios, further improve energy utilization efficiency, effectively extend the battery life, and reduce energy waste. Especially in some scenarios that are sensitive to energy consumption and have large power fluctuations in power consuming equipment, the energy saving mode can play a significant role and help users reduce overall electricity costs.
In the batteryless operation mode, the inverter can directly convert the DC power generated by the solar panel into AC power for the load without connecting the battery. This mode is suitable for load equipment with sufficient solar resources and some load equipment that does not require high power continuity, and the solar panel power generation can meet the load demand in a timely manner. For example, Xindun HP PLUS+ series power inverter support batteryless operation mode, which can play a role in some household equipment, outdoor temporary power consumption, small farms and other power consumption scenarios.
When there is sufficient sunlight during the day but only a small power appliance needs to be used for a short time, using this mode is both convenient and economical. When using this mode, users only need to ensure that the solar panels work normally and the power generation can match the load demand, so as to achieve power supply without relying on batteries, reduce the cost of purchasing and maintaining batteries, and maximize the value of solar energy. However, due to the lack of battery energy storage, when the solar panels generate insufficient power or stop generating power, the load will not be able to obtain power. Therefore, when using the batteryless operation mode, users need to understand the local lighting conditions and power demand in advance, and reasonably arrange the power time and load power to ensure the stability and reliability of power consumption.
When choosing the working mode of the off grid power inverter, users also need to consider some other factors. For example, frequent switching between the mains and PV and batteries may cause certain damage to the inverter and battery, shortening their service life. Therefore, when users flexibly choose the working mode, they need to comprehensively weigh factors such as power demand, energy cost, equipment maintenance, etc., so as to make the off grid power inverter play the best performance and benefits.
